This place that you day-dream of is not a figment of your imagination—it exists—and it’s found just 90 minutes from Brisbane on the edge of the Great Dividing Range that lays merely 700 metres above sea level along the Lockyer Valley. This fantastic place is the biggest town in Queensland, which still maintains a fairly humble “country” vibe. A town which is celebrated for its gorgeous blossoms, found in its more than 150 public parks. A town that is loved for its locally produced gourmet cuisine, and ingredients. Queensland’s very own garden city; Toowoomba City.
Get the Full Experience—For the Culture Connoisseur
Toowoomba is the one area Queensland which has always been associated with its enchanting gardens, and never-ending relaxing parks. For someone who considers themselves a magpie for the wonders of nature, you will find yourself completely surrounded by an emerald heaven.
Every September, this wonderful city is transformed into a floral wonderland in the Carnival of Flowers, where the entire city’s biggest, and best parks and gardens are specially prepared.
This carnival is such a massive event that buses bring in people from all over Australia, but the absolute best way to enjoy, and arrive at this floral festival is on chartered steam, and diesel trains from Brisbane, before you get to marvel at the local participants home gardens, as part of the home garden competition, and parade of flower floats.
During the weekend of Easter every year, Toowoomba becomes a festival of Gospel Music as the home to Easterfest. As someone who visits the city during this time of the year, you will be treated to seeing the city’s CBD turn into an event precinct laden in tents, and stages, and of-course the wonderful parks!
History on Your Plate: For the Food Connoisseur
If you are a fan of haute cuisine, you need not worry at all as this quaint city is very well served by a huge selection of restaurants, cafés, and small eateries which present locally sourced food made from scratch.
For the food historian, you might be thrilled to know that Toowoomba is home to the Weis Bar; that delicious bar shaped fruit ice cream is manufactured in Toowoomba. The Australian Weis family has been exporting their delicious locally produced desserts to countries all over the world for over 10 years.
If you fancy yourself a consumer of less industrially made desserts, then perhaps the Toowoomba native Lamington will pique your interest.
Did you know that according to some claims, the very first Lamingtons were served by Lord Lamington's chef, French-born Armand Galland in Toowoomba?
